Responding to the call, deputies spotted the suspect’s vehicle and attempted a traffic stop in a nearby store parking. The suspect, Steve Lamar Goss Jr., 42, of Greenwood, ran into the store, where deputies arrested him.

According to deputies, Goss had a single gunshot wound to his arm and was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Meanwhile, other Carroll County deputies reached the house to find that Goss had previously driven his 2500 GMC Pickup Truck into the house’s dining room after being unable to get in through the front door.

Officials said Goss had reportedly found the mother and children hiding in a closet that the family used as a safe room. The mother reportedly shot Goss as he entered the closet wielding a knife. After being shot, Goss reportedly fled the house before being arrested.

Goss is charged with four counts of attempted murder and one count of burglary. Goss was already out on felony bond for possession of a weapon by a felon.
