One injured in Mississippi chase that led to head-on collision

A vehicle with no tag led deputies on a high-speed chase that ending in a dramatic three-car collision and injured one person Wednesday evening in Lowndes County.

The multi-car crash happened just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of Military Road and the on-ramp to Hwy 82, following the vehicle’s failure to stop for deputies.

The pursuit of the vehicle was initiated by deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics STING Unit after the vehicle was spotted near 18th Avenue and Military Road. The chase ended with a head-on collision, and then struck a second vehicle before coming to a rest. The driver then ran from the crash site to the nearby Comfort Inn & Suites where he ran up to the third floor before he was apprehended by deputies.

The driver was identified as 33-year-old Joshua Wilson of Columbus. Illegal drugs were found in the vehicle and now Wilson faces charges including no tag, felony fleeing and felony possession of controlled substance (THC edibles). As a result of the accident, Wilson complained of a shoulder injury and was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle where he was treated and released. Wilson is currently in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting his initial appearance.
