Two killed after dump truck collides with minivan on Mississippi highway Thursday morning

Two people were killed when a dump truck and minivan collided Thursday morning.

The collision occurred at approximately 8 a.m. Thursday on US 49 near Saucier.

According to officials, 68-year-old John Potts of Saucier and 13-year-old Victoria Hutcherson, both occupants of the minivan, died in the wreck.

Potts was reportedly driving when he tried to cross from South Taylor to Nobles Road. After crossing the northbound lanes of US 49, Potts was hit by the dump truck while trying to cross the southbound lanes.

Potts was ejected from the vehicle.

The dump truck driver was also ejected from his truck and was taken by ambulance to an area hospital with a reported head injury.

MHP is still investigating the incident.
