Mississippi fugitive in custody after four days on the run

A Mississippi fugitive on the run since Sunday has been taken into custody.

Officials with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office had been searching for John M. Dampeer for four days on criminal charges, including burglary and sexual assault.

WDAM in Hattiesburg reports that Dampeer was taken into custody Wednesday night near County Road 226 in northeast Jasper County.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol and deputies from Clarke County assisted in the arrest.

Dampeer had been on the run since he reportedly committed the crimes on Sunday.

Jasper County officials report that he was taken into custody after he was spotted coming out of the woods and running into an abandoned building Wednesday night.
