A fisherman discovered a truck in the water behind the Belwood Levee on the Mississippi River and called authorities, who confirmed it to be stolen from Adams County.

Investigators responded at approximately 1:40 p.m. Sunday afternoon and then called Search and Rescue along with Wildlife and Fisheries game wardens, Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said.

Only the roof of the truck was visible in the water and investigators confirmed that it was a truck as it was pulled out with the assistance of Chops Wrecker Service. No one was inside the truck, Patten said.

“Investigators will continue to investigate this incident and look for a vin number to determine who the vehicle belongs to and how it ended up in the river. We would like to thank the caller, Search and Rescue, Wildlife and Fisheries and Chops Wrecker Service for their assistance today,” Patten said.

The sheriff later said the truck was determined to have been stolen.
