A Mississippi man was arrested Wednesday for violent crimes. He has already been charged 27 times by the department.
Dekkar Allen Fleming, 33, of Columbus, was charged with Domestic Violence Aggravated Assault, as well as Kidnapping by Lowndes County deputies.
According to the sheriff’s department, Fleming allegedly pushed the victim into the backseat of his vehicle and held her, preventing her from escaping. Fleming then drove away from the victim’s apartment, located on Yorkville Road in Columbus, with the victim.
The victim tried to escape and fell out of the vehicle at Yorkville Road and Stadium Drive in New Hope while the vehicle was still moving and sustained injuries. Fleming then allegedly grabbed the victim and pushed her back in the vehicle. Witnesses heard the victim screaming and notified 911.
The victim was able to call 911 without Fleming’s knowledge and directed deputies to their location. Deputies spotted the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop and took Fleming into custody without incident. Fleming is currently being held at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on a $75,000 bond.
Fleming has been booked into the LCADC a total of 10 previous times for 10 previous felonies and 17 previous misdemeanors. Some of his charges include felony taking of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, violation of parole, aggravated assault, robbery and one previous charge of kidnapping.
“Fleming is a violent criminal with a violent past. We will do everything possible to make sure he is held accountable for his actions,” Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said.
