Authorities are investigating after a man was found dead in the middle of a street near a Mississippi elementary school.

Jackson Police report that the man, who has not been identified, was discovered shot to death in the middle of a street near Pecan Park Elementary School at approximately 6:45 a.m. on Friday.

The incident occurred at Claiborne and Clinton Avenue in Jackson.

The school is currently closed for remodeling.

Police have released few details, but have reported that the victim was found shot several times.
