Officials looking for ‘armed and dangerous’ suspect after MDOT crew finds burned body along Mississippi highway

Authorities are on the lookout for an ‘armed and dangerous’ suspect after the body of a missing man was found burned along the side of a Mississippi highway.

Officials with the Copiah County Sheriff’s Office report that Mississippi Department of Transporation workers came upon a burned body on Highway 472 near Rockport Road on Monday.

Sheriff Byron Swilley said the body has been identified as Billy Ray Jones, Jr., 54. Swilley said Jones’ father reported hours before the body was found that his son had been missing since Saturday. Jones’ father had come in to file a missing person’s report.

Swilley said one person has been arrested and another suspect is being sought in the case.

Deputies have arrested Matthew Nelson, 50, and charged him with murder and kidnapping.

Swilley said his office is still looking for a Tyrell Bridges, 32, and said that Bridges is to be considered “armed and dangerous.” Bridges will also be charged with murder and kidnapping.
