A federal probation officer in Mississippi has been arrested on child pornography charges

WTVA in Tupelo reports that Lonnie Everill, 44, of Yalobusha County, is accused of distributing and possessing child pornography.

A complaint filed by the FBI accuses Everill of using an online chat in an attempt to have sex with a 9-year-old girl from California. Instead of chatting with the girl, Everill was chatting with an agent.

According to the complaint, Everill purchased a plane ticket to meet the girl in Fresno, California.

Everill was scheduled to have a preliminary and detention hearing Friday afternoon in federal court in Oxford.
