Fans of a Mississippi restaurant known for its breakfast buffet and southern country cooking are expressing sadness on social media after the popular dining spot announced it was closing for good.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of PawPaw’s Kountry Kitchen,” owners Bill and Lisa Hester announced on Facebook. Over the past year, we have cherished serving our community with hearty meals. However, due to the relentless rise in food and operating costs, we find ourselves unable to sustain our operations without lowering the quality of the food. This we will not do!”
The restaurant on the grounds of the Indian Point RV Resort in Gautier is closing for good after Sunday’s lunch buffet service.
“No!!! We forbid you to close!!! But we understand. Y’all are the best!! Good food, great service and good all-around people,” one devoted customer wrote in response to the social media post.
Another loyal patron wrote about the restaurant’s announcement.
“It’s a sad day for Gautier and some breakfast-loving families. Thanks for the great food and friendly service. And for your generosity!” the commenter wrote.
Since the announcement on Facebook on Friday, the post has been shared numerous times and seen by many in Mississippi and beyond.
“We want to extend our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you who has walked through our doors, shared meals with loved ones, and made memories within our walls,” the Hesters wrote. “Your support has meant the world to us.”
“Though our journey may be ending here, the memories we’ve created together will forever remain cherished. We hope that you will continue to support local businesses in our community.”
The restaurant will end the last day of service today with Chicken fried steak, mash taters, gravy, fried okra and biscuits.
