Mississippi city official fired after reportedly being found using fuel card that was to have been confiscated

The public works director for a small Mississippi community has been fired after being accused of using a fuel card that was not supposed to have been in his possession.

WTVA in Tupelo reports that Calhoun City Public Works Director Brenton Reynolds was fired on April 12 after officials discovered that a fuel card that was supposed to be turned in two years ago was still in use.

City Mayor Marshall Coleman said that the card was for a dump truck that was sold in 2022. The was supposed to either be turned in or confiscated by the former city clerk, the mayor said.

City officials began investigating after the card was used and a fuel ticket was not turned in.

The new city clerk reportedly did not know the card was in circulation. Documents have been forwarded to the MississippiState Auditor’s Office.
