Police are investigating after a fisherman discovered a body floating in the Pearl River near Interstate 20 and U.S. South of Jackson.

After an hours-long search, officials were able to recover the body, which officials from the Jackson Police Department have indicated to be that of a male.

Multiple agencies responded Tuesday night and were on the scene near South State Street and Gallatin Street as officers and emergency responders worked to locate and recover the body.

According to news reports, officials from Jackson, Rankin County and Richland were on the scene assisting in the recovery process.
