One person dead, two others injured in wreck involving stolen SUV

One person is dead, and two others are in the hospital after they reportedly stole an SUV and then wrecked it hours earlier.

When police officers arrived at the scene of the wreck on Benwood Drive Saturday morning, they found one juvenile unresponsive and two others injured and lying on the ground.

They also discovered a wrecked KIA SUV that had been reported stolen earlier in the day.

Officials from the Jackson Police Department report that at approximately 8 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a call regarding a brown KIA SUV stolen from a woman’s home on Dorgan Street.

Around 11 a.m. the same day, JPD Precinct 1 officers responded to a wreck located at 2718 Benwood Drive.

Upon arrival, Jackson Police found three Black male juveniles lying on the ground near a wrecked KIA SUV. The vehicle was identified as the stolen car from Dorgan Street.

All three juveniles sustained injuries from the wreck and were taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Two of the subjects were taken to the hospital for the complaint of back pain. The third male appeared unresponsive at the scene of the crash and later succumbed to his injuries.
