A person involved in a shooting involving a Mississippi police officer over the weekend has died.

Officials with the Harrison County Coroner’s Office confirmed that one person died after being taken to a local hospital. The person was involved in an incident at William Bell Apartments in Gulfport on Saturday.

A news release from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations reports that officers with the Gulfport Police Department were called to the apartment complex after reports of a stabbing.

After officers arrived, a fight took place between an officer and the suspect, leading to gunfire.

Officials say that one person was taken to a local hospital, where they later died due to gunshot wounds. It is unclear how the person who died at the hospital was connected to the reported stabbing.

The officer received no serious physical injuries.
