Authorities arrest Texas suspect after finding murder victim’s car in Mississippi

Mississippi authorities arrested a Texas murder suspect Tuesday morning after launching a manhunt when deputies identified a car that belonged to a murder victim out of West Texas.

WAPT in Jackson reports that the Warren County Sheriff’s Office took Marcus Jamar Thompson, 29, of Webster, Texas, into custody at about 6:15 a.m.

Monday night, deputies recovered a black Nissan Altima with Texas plates from the China Grove community. Deputies discovered that the vehicle belonged to a murder victim out of West Texas.

Deputies staked out the vehicle for several hours after they found what they believed were some of the suspect’s personal belongings in a nearby woods.

The search was later expanded to include dogs and drones.

Thompson was arrested without incident when he walked out of the woods Monday morning near Highway 27 and China Grove Road, where deputies had set up a checkpoint.

Thompson reportedly has a relative in Vicksburg. He is now awaiting extradition back to Webster, Texas, to face murder charges.
