Officials: Mississippi inmate dies after being found unresponsive in county jail

An inmate awaiting trial died in a Mississippi county jail Monday.
Officials with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office report that the inmate, who had been in custody for 56 days, was found unresponsive in a cell shortly after 7 a.m.
Officials have not released the inmate’s name, pending notification of family members.
The cause of death is under investigation. According to officials, the inmate had been medically cleared to be in the jail.
