Both directions of Interstate 55 in north Mississippi will be temporarily closed Friday morning because of recent storm damage.

Officials from the Mississippi Department of Transportation report that I-55 at Exit 139 in Yazoo County will be closed for less than an hour.

Drivers may need to find alternate routes during the closure, MDOT officials said. Advisories suggest drivers stay alert, go slow, and expect delays.

Beginning at 10 a.m., all four lanes of I-55 will be closed for powerline maintenance due to damage sustained from recent extreme weather. Utility crews expect the closure to last under an hour.
