Emergency vehicle hits embankment, flips multiple times after motorist reportedly fails to yield

A Mississippi emergency responder was involved in a rollover crash that was reportedly caused by a driver who did not pull over for emergency vehicles with flashing lights and sirens.

A social media post from the Coahoma County Fire Department’s Facebook page released a press release accompanied by photos of an emergency vehicle severely damaged after it hit an embankment and overturned multiple times.

“On May 21, 2024, CCFD District Chief & EMS Director R. Murry was involved in a single-vehicle roll-over collision while responding along with a med unit to a medical emergency call.

He maneuvered abruptly, leaving the roadway to avoid direct contact with a vehicle that failed to yield right away to an approaching emergency vehicle with flashing warning lights and sirens activated.

As a direct result, Chief Murry’s vehicle left the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned multiple times before coming to rest westward on Hwy 6/278. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and self-extricated from the vehicle.
