A 6-year-old child has died after emergency responders rescued the boy from Mississippi’s Barnett Reservoir.

The child who was reported missing near Lakeshore Park Saturday afternoon was discovered in the water.

Officers with the Reservoir Police Department immediately jumped into the water to save the child.

After retrieving the child, officers then performed CPR until medical personnel could arrive on the scene. The child was then taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Officials say the child died shortly after 5 p.m. at Merit Health River Oaks.
