A woman accused of stealing from Mississippi graves has been arrested.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reports that Becky Reeves, 50, of the Athens community, has been taken into custody after several people reported missing items from area gravesite.
Reeves will be charged with two counts of petit larceny concerning items stolen from graves in the Amory and Hatley area.
Deputies recovered some of the stolen items, thanks to a tip from a citizen hearing about the number of items disappearing from the cemetery.
So far, two people have come forward to press charges, but other charges may be pending.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s office says that anyone who has recently had items removed from the grave of a loved one from a cemetery in Monroe County, even if it was inside the city limits, is encouraged to come to Monroe County Justice Court in Amory and talk to Deputy Thomas Adams any weekday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The sheriff’s office is working along with Amory PD in this case.
