Mississippi authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Hattiesburg.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) reports that the shooting occurred Monday and involved a drug enforcement agent and task force officer (TFO) who were transporting two subjects to the Federal Courthouse in Hattiesburg.

During transportation, an altercation occurred between the agent and one of the subjects, resulting in the agent receiving injuries. The TFO discharged his weapon striking the subject. Both the agent and subject were transported to a local hospital.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
