Mississippi reports first case of West Nile virus in 2024

Mississippi has reported the first human case of West Nile Virus of 2024.
The case happened in Rankin County, the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported on Thursday.
The MSDH did not name the individual.
The virus is primarily transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito.
Most people do not develop any symptoms, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
However, some people do develop symptoms like fever, headache, body aches, joint pains, vomiting, diarrhea and rash.
