The largest freshman class in Ole Miss history has prompted officials to begin a Sunday bus route around the city of Oxford.
The addition of the Sunday routes was requested by the University of Mississippi which is expected to see its largest freshman arrive in Oxford for the fall semester.
To be able to house the students, the university has contracted with about five apartment complexes in the city.
Since students may need to get to campus to eat, study, and do other things on Sundays, the university has requested the Sunday buses.
Donna Zampella, general manager of Oxford University Transit, told the Board of Aldermen Tuesday that she expects to run two buses on two routes that will only go the apartment complexes and campus with a stop at Walmart for those students who need to shop.
“The cost goes back to the university,” she said. “So, it will not be a cost to the city.”
The new Sunday routes will begin in August and the University will provide information about routes and times to the students when they arrive at their apartments.
