In the early hours of Thursday morning, a shooting incident in Moss Point left two teenagers injured. According to Police Chief Brandon Ashley, the shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. at the corner of Magnolia Street and Davis Street during a brawl involving a large group of teenagers. Bullets also struck a nearby church.
“With the amount of shots fired, we’re lucky we don’t have multiple homicides,” Chief Ashley remarked.
In the aftermath, police halted four to five cars speeding away from the scene and have detained at least ten teenagers for questioning. Many of the individuals involved in the altercation are reportedly from out of town.
The two injured teens were shot in their legs and are expected to recover. One was transported to USA Medical Center in Mobile with a shattered leg bone.
Investigators have collected shell casings scattered around the church’s parking lot as part of their ongoing investigation. The Moss Point Police Department is working diligently to piece together the events that led to the violence and to identify those responsible.
