‘Random shootings’ prompt travel alert along Mississippi highway, sheriff reports

A travel alert has been issued for Mississippi drivers in Coahoma County after a series of what appears to be random shootings.
The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office issued Wednesday night a travel alert on Facebook after “multiple shootings” in the area of Highway 1 and all entrances to Friars Point, near Clarksdale.
According to the Facebook post, the shootings appear to be gang-related and may be “random.”
The sheriff’s office asked anyone with information about the shootings to call 662-624-3085.
