The suspect accused of shooting and killing Summit police officer Troy Floyd had a court order out for his arrest.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation released the name of the suspect accused in a shooting that resulted in the death Floyd and the injury of two McComb officers.
The suspect was identified as 25-year-old Usher Leonard.
According to the MBI, officers were conducting a police checkpoint when a passenger in a passing vehicle opened fire, killing the Summit officer. The two McComb officers engaged in a shootout with the suspect, who was shot and killed.
WLBT in Jackson reports a warrant for Leonard’s arrest was filed weeks earlier. The arrest warrant which was ordered by the court in October 2022, wasn’t filed until recently, ordering law enforcement to arrest him for violating conditions of a 2020 prison release
Both McComb officers are expected to recover from their injuries.
