Mississippi officials have launched an investigation after the death of a 1-month-old child.

Officials from Panola County are investigating after the child died at his home on Sunday, Aug. 1, and investigators were left unsatisfied with answers to questions about the death.

The body of the child was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Jackson for autopsy and forensic study out of an “abundance of caution,” officials said.

Child Protection Services will also be involved in any further investigation. If criminal charges are filed in the case it will be at the county level.
