A 65-year-old Tennesse man has been charged with sexual battery after an investigation launched by Mississippi authorities.

On July 31, 2024, the Oxford Police Department responded to a report of a sexual assault in the 1500 block of University Avenue. Officers and investigators promptly launched an investigation into the alleged incident.

As the investigation progressed, authorities identified Elton Keith McCommon, a 65-year-old resident of Memphis, TN, as a suspect. On August 13, 2024, a warrant for sexual battery was served on McCommon, who was already being held at the Lafayette County Detention Center on unrelated charges.

McCommon remains in custody, with a bond to be set by a Municipal Court Judge. The Oxford Police Department continues to investigate the case, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
