A Mississippi man is now facing an escape charge following an attempt to flee while being escorted from the justice court to the county jail.
The Natchez Democrat reports that Brian McKlemurry had just been arraigned in Adams County Justice Court on a charge of possession of a controlled substance and was issued a $200,000 bond, according to Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten.
McKlemurry was initially arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance and appeared before Judge Danny Barber for his arraignment. After the bond was set, deputies began escorting McKlemurry back to the Adams County Jail. However, during the walk, McKlemurry broke away from the deputies and attempted to escape.
His bid for freedom was short-lived, as he was quickly apprehended a short distance away. McKlemurry was then brought back before Judge Barber, this time facing a new charge of escape. Judge Barber set an additional bond of $150,000 for the escape charge.
