Suspect shot after reportedly attempting to hit police officer with vehicle

Mississippi authorities are investigating after a police officer shot a suspect who was reportedly trying to strike the officer with his vehicle.

Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) are investigating an officer-involved shooting involving a Jackson Police Department officer. The incident occurred on Sunday, September 8, near Jamestown Way.

According to Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), Jackson police officers were responding to a call for service when the situation escalated. As an officer approached the scene, the suspect allegedly attempted to strike the officer with his vehicle.

In response, the officer discharged his weapon, hitting the suspect. The suspect sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while the officer was not seriously injured.

MBI agents are currently leading the investigation. Once their inquiry is complete, the findings will be turned over to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office for review.
