Mississippi is gearing up for the grand opening of its first Topgolf venue, which is set to officially welcome guests on December 20. The state-of-the-art facility, located northeast of the Renaissance at Colony Park, promises to deliver a dynamic blend of recreation, entertainment, and economic benefits.

The two-level Topgolf Ridgeland venue will feature 62 outdoor climate-controlled hitting bays, ensuring year-round enjoyment for visitors. Adding to the excitement, the site will also debut a brand-new nine-hole mini-golf course designed to amplify the fun for guests of all ages.

Construction on the entertainment center began earlier this year as part of the larger Prado Vista development, which spans 77 acres and integrates residential and entertainment spaces along Colony Park Boulevard. The project received approval from Ridgeland’s Board of Aldermen in April 2023, followed by the green light for site plans and architectural designs in October.

Economic and academic partnerships have played a vital role in bringing this unique recreational venue to central Mississippi. The University of Southern Mississippi’s (USM) Trent Lott National Center for Economic Development and Entrepreneurship collaborated with Topgolf to assess the venue’s potential impact on the Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). Professors Dr. Wei Wang (Hospitality and Tourism Management) and Dr. Chris Croft (Sport Management) conducted data analysis to project visitor impact, both in-state and out-of-state. Their findings were integral in securing the Mississippi Development Authority’s approval of Topgolf’s Tourism Tax Rebate Application.

“We are delighted to offer research support for Topgolf’s endeavor to establish its inaugural facility in Mississippi,” said Dr. Wang. “This state-of-the-art venue is set to draw tourism, enrich the quality of life for residents, and generate a positive economic impact for the local area and the state as a whole.”

Dr. Croft highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of the project, which brought together economic development, hospitality, tourism, and sport management expertise. “This was a great collaboration that aligns with our mission to advance knowledge and support economic development,” he said.

The Ridgeland location is strategically positioned off I-55, making it accessible for residents and visitors alike. Topgolf’s Director of Real Estate Development, Todd Waldo, led the efforts to secure the site and coordinate construction, which began in early 2023.

The facility is expected to be a major draw for both entertainment and tourism, enhancing the area’s appeal and creating new opportunities for community engagement and economic growth.
