A Mississippi sheriff’s ‘white pride’ email resurfaces in ACLU lawsuit over racial profiling

Years before Madison County found itself at the center of a class-action lawsuit for claims of racially targeted policing against black citizens, its now-sheriff Randy Tucker forwarded an email to his colleagues promoting “white pride.”

The email, sent in 2009, is part of a body of evidence compiled by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Mississippi attempting to show that a racially biased culture has existed within the sheriff’s department for years.

Tucker forwarded the email, which you can read below, to a group of colleagues in the office.

(The following email forward contains several racial slurs and offensive language)

The ACLU filed suit against Madison County in 2017 claiming residents have been subjected to years of discrimination and often illegal policing practices by the sheriff’s department. Tucker, who was elected in 2012, defended department practices in response to the suit, saying if a law is broken, “appropriate action is taken regardless of the race of the one breaking said law.
