An alderman in a Mississippi city has pleaded guilty in a voter fraud case.

Court officials tell WAPT-TV that Canton alderman Andrew Grant pleaded guilty Monday to conspiracy to commit voter fraud. He was sentenced to five years in prison, which the judge suspended.

Grant resigned as Canton’s Ward 7 alderman immediately after the sentencing.

Grant is one of five people charged in the investigation. Canton School Board member Courtney Rainey was convicted Wednesday of voter intimidation.

The suspects are accused of trying to influence voters in the 2017 Canton municipal election.
