The jail administrator, Capt. Ryan Rickert, says West had been transferred there from the Monroe County jail.

Lowndes County Circuit Court records show that West was convicted of burglary of a dwelling and uttering forgery in 2004 and sentenced to 10 years in prison, with five years’ post-release supervision. In 2018, West was arrested for violating parole and his sentence was revoked. He was awaiting a new sentencing.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is looking into his death.
