Police are investigating the discovery of what may be a child’s body sealed inside a plastic bag and hidden in the basement of a Mississippi residence.

Meridian, Mississippi, media outlets are reporting the apparent discovery of a small child’s body on Wednesday.

Meridian Police Chief Benny Dubose told WTOK-TV that investigators were led to the location of the body by a former caretaker for a small child in the area that reportedly has been missing since April.

Five-year-old Jakie Toole was reportedly given to the caregiver by his mother and never seen again.

Police charged the caregiver, Celeste Smith, with contributing to the delinquency of a minor while the contents of the bag are being analyzed by the state crime lab. Additional charges may be pending.
