UPDATE: Person missing after vehicle plunges into Mississippi reservoir found dead

Authorities say a person missing after a car plunges into Mississippi’s Barnett Reservoir has been found dead. Rescue crews had been searching for the missing person Thursday morning after a vehicle went into the water shortly after 5 a.m.

One person is missing, and another has been hospitalized after a vehicle plunged into Mississippi’s Barnett Reservoir Thursday morning.

WJTV in Jackson reports that Reservoir Police Chief Trevell Dixon said the incident unfolded at approximately 5:15 a.m. on Thursday, April 18.

Details surrounding the incident remain scant, but Dixon confirmed that one individual has been transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Meanwhile, a search operation is underway to locate the missing person and the submerged vehicle.

The cause behind the incident is under investigation.

Thursday morning’s events happened one day after a couple and their dog narrowly escaped a boat fire.
