A 19-year-old Mississippi man was arrested after reportedly trying to use a fake check.

Oxford police report that Gavin Smith, 19, of Oxford, was arrested and charged with Uttering Forgery.

Smith was arrested after police responded to a report of a fraudulent check from a business on Sisk Avenue in Oxford.

Smith was taken before a Municipal Court judge for his initial bond hearing and issued a $2,500 bond.
