Filmmakers Jack Porter Lofton and Jeffrey Dailey spent five years capturing raw footage of the rich history and people who shaped the uniquely Downtown Memphis institution that continues today under the helm of a third generation.

“It’s an important story to tell when we were at the crossroads of a company during COVID and the retirement of some of our Rendezvous originals,” said Anna Vergos, third-generation member of the Vergos family. “I’m proud to look back on this documentary and see how much growth we’ve all felt and continue to embrace.”

“Our film, ‘The ‘Vous,’ explores the extraordinary journey of a small, smokey BBQ joint to becoming a world-renowned institution and celebrity attraction,” said filmmakers Dailey and Lofton. “It’s a story about the people—the Vergos family, staff and waiters like Big Jack, Percy, and Big Robert—whose love and dedication to each other and the community were the true ingredients of success. They made the Rendezvous more than a restaurant; they turned it into a Memphis landmark, standing tall alongside the legends of Blues, Rock n Roll, and Elvis.”

As film critic Steve Dollar put it, “Soak up the warmth, humor and profound spirit of the joint’s most indelible characters, who offer a perspective on civil rights history dipped in tangy, smoky sauce.”
