Mississippi deputies arrest Alabama man after reportedly carjacking vehicle with adult, 3 children inside

An Alabama man has been taken into custody after he reportedly carjacked a vehicle in Mississippi with an adult and three children inside.
During the early hours of Sunday, April 21, 2024, the George County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distress call from a female reporting a vehicle theft with her children and an adult passenger inside.
The incident occurred on Highway 98 near the weigh station when the victim’s vehicle was stopped, and a male suspect, identified as Demetrius Young, 34, of Mobile, allegedly jumped in and drove off with the vehicle, which contained the victim’s three juvenile children aged eleven, thirteen, and ten-months-old, along with an adult passenger.
Thanks to the prompt response of George County Deputies, Young was swiftly apprehended during a traffic stop following the initial call. He was taken into custody and transported to the George County Regional Correctional Facility, where he faces charges of Carjacking and four counts of Kidnapping.
In an initial appearance before a George County Justice Court Judge, Young was assigned a $50,000 Commercial Bond for Carjacking and $50,000 each for the counts of Kidnapping, totaling a $250,000 Commercial Bond. Young currently remains in custody at the GCRCF.
Sheriff Mitchell Mixon praised his Deputies for their courageous and rapid response to the incident, emphasizing that their quick actions likely prevented a tragic outcome.
