The year 2024 is proving to be one for the record books for fishermen on one Mississippi Lake.

Officials from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks confirmed the second record-braking catch of the year for Lake Mary Crawford.

The official record-breaking catfish was caught by Thomas McKnight earlier this month, officials said.

Jerry Brown, MDWFP Fisheries Chief of Staff, said the catfish weighed 15.97 pounds and set a record for Lake Mary Crawford.

It is the second lake record caught this year. The catch bested the previous record of 14.4 pounds caught by Richard Albritton. Lisle McKnight reported the catch on April 8 to The Daily Leader.

Readers might recall Jordan Davis, a Brookhaven man, caught a 2.53 pound crappie setting a Lake Mary Crawford record for crappie earlier in April. The catch was featured in a MDWFP social media post.
