Mississippi officials will be on the lookout for severe weather Tuesday as a storm system in the middle part of the country continues to move eastward.

The northern half of the state has been identified as a marginal risk for severe storms.

According to Accuweather, the severe weather that affected the Central Plains on Monday will begin to impact millions more from Arkansas to Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

Most of the severe weather should remain north and west of the state, weather officials said.

Some questions remain about how primed the atmosphere will be for storms later in the day, farther south and east on Tuesday. Thunderstorms are still expected to develop again later in the day after some daytime heating provides fuel for the atmosphere.

The risk for severe thunderstorms will not abate after Tuesday. The risk chances for severe weather increase on Wednesday for north Mississippi. The National Weather Service has placed areas of the state above Jackson in a zone of slight risk for severe weather, including the chance for tornadoes.

A small area in the northwest corner of the state will be under a zone of marginal risk for hail, tornadoes, high winds and severe storms.
