One arrest can make a difference: Police chief says car crimes have greatly dropped after Mississippi teen’s April arrest

One arrest can make a big difference.

That was the message Monday from Brookhaven Police Chief Kenneth Collins, who said that an April arrest of Kriston Ramsey.

“Since this suspect has been locked up, 80 percent of the car burglaries and stolen vehicles has come to a stop,” Collins said about the arrest of the 19-year-old who reportedly shot at police officers who were serving a warrant.

According to officials, Ramsey shot at the police officer four times on April 18 at the Jackson Square Apartments around 12:30 p.m.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Mississippi Highway Patrol, and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation all assisted in the search for the teenager.

“It’s such a high honor and privilege to have and work with dedicated officers who give so much. I’m thankful to the people for entrusting me with the role of chief of police through their votes. It doesn’t matter where you came from but where you can be. It’s not about power but keeping the city safe,” said Collins.
