Mississippi coronavirus new case averages at lowest level in months

Mississippi’s trailing averages of new COVID-19 coronavirus cases continued to decline Wednesday with the latest statistics from the state health department.
On Wednesday, the state reported 426 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours.
Mississippi State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs wrote on social media that the state is seeing “persistent improvement.”
“Please keep it up! Mask, 6 ft, small groups,” he wrote.
The state also reported 39 new deaths Wednesday. Of the deaths reported Wednesday, 12 actually occurred between July 14 and August 28.
In total, 87,805 cases have been found in the state since March. The state believes approximately 74,000 of those cases have recovered.
A total of 2,623 people in Mississippi have died as a result of coronavirus, the state reported.
The 7-day, daily average of new cases dropped to 491 with Wednesday’s update. That number was the lowest 7-day, daily average since June 24.
The 14-day, daily average dropped to 550 cases per day.
