Where can you find the best apple pie in Mississippi?

My 4-year-old and I had a conversation last night about dessert—easily his favorite part of any meal—and as he started to rattle off his favorites (“chocolate cake, ice cream, donuts…”) I got tickled when he ended his list with “…and famous apple pie.”

At risk of my Southern Mama card being revoked, I admit I’ve never baked an apple pie, or any pie, for that matter, outside of the easy-fill kind with the store-bought crust (don’t judge). So chances are somewhere along the way he’s heard someone refer to a “famous apple pie” and assumes that’s simply how you describe all of them. Aside from being ridiculously cute, it got me thinking about Mississippi’s best pies and which spots claim to have the best.

Here in Oxford, Bottletree Bakery undoubtedly wears the crown for pastry prominence, thanks to Twinkle Van Winkle’s Oprah-approved apple tart and the bakery’s Humble Pie featured on Food Network.

Of course, that doesn’t mean there aren’t other fantastic bakeries around these parts or throughout the rest of Mississippi, and that’s where you come in.

In the comments below or over on our Facebook page, tell us about the restaurants or bakeries in Mississippi that whip up the best apple pie you’ve ever had. We’ll gather the responses and put them to the test in a good old-fashioned voting contest later this month.
