A Mississippi child left a suicide note at school, but no one told his parents until three days later
A bullied elementary school student in Yazoo City left a note at school saying he would take his own life if the behavior didn’t stop, but his grandparents say no one at school told them about it until three days later.
“Three days from him, we hadn’t heard about our grandson writing a suicide letter,” McDaniel Gatson, the 10-year-old’s boy’s grandfather and guardian, told Mississippi News Now.
Gatson was aware of his grandson’s prior encounters with bullies at McCoy Elementary School and said it was only when he met with the principal after the boy was kicked in the groin at school that he found out about the letter.
Gatson said the school principal told him the reason they didn’t tell him about the note sooner was because of school testing.
“You take testing over a life? It could have been a conversation about burying my grandson,” Gatson said.
The Yazoo City School District is investigating the incident and providing counseling for the student.
