Mississippi child care facility information now included in online database

The Mississippi Department of Health (MSDH) has launched an online database with information on the state’s licensed child care facilities. The database is designed to serve parents seeking information on their child’s care center, including licensing status, inspections, complaint investigations and penalties.
Parents can also find out which services each child care center and/or youth camp offers and search for facilities based on different criteria.
For years you’ve been able to locate a licensed facility in your area through our website, but this new database will be a huge advancement for our state,” said Jim Craig, MSDH Director of Health Protection, in a press release. “This is a project that has been years in the making, and we’re extremely proud to be able to finally offer this service to parents in Mississippi.”
Though the database only includes complaint and inspection information since July 2017, parents can access said information through a public records request.

“Our goal is to give parents and caregivers complete information at their fingertips to make an informed decision on where to safely and appropriately place their child,” Craig said.
