A Mississippi man received a life in prison sentence for attacking his girlfriend and torturing her 5-year-old son with a pair of pliers.

Luis Migel Garcia-Lebron, 30, was sentenced Monday by Circuit Court Judge Robert Helfrich.

Garcia-Lebron was sentenced to life in prison, plus 20 years on felony child abuse and aggravated domestic violence charges.

“Luis Migel Garcia-Lebron is a violent criminal that physically tortured both a 5-year-old boy and the young boy’s mother,” said Forrest-Perry County District Attorney Lin Carter. “Today’s sentence of life plus 20 years by the court takes into account the heinous acts committed by Garcia-Lebron.”

Garcia-Lebron was arrested in January 2019 by Hattiesburg police and charged with beating a 24-year-old woman and abusing and torturing her child.

Prosecutors say that in addition to beating the mother and son, Garcia-Lebron took a pair of pliers and cut the boy’s upper lip.

Garcia-Lebron was found guilty of all charges he faces by a jury trial last month.
