Mississippi deputies catch dogfighters in the act, 8 people detained
Eight people were arrested Sunday and 12 dogs confiscated after Mississippi sheriff’s deputies uncovered an illegal dogfight in progress.
Newton County Sheriff’s Office deputies say the fight was being held in an abandoned trailer
Deputies rescued 12 dogs, impounded 27 cars, a trailer and took eight people into custody, WTOK-TV reported.
Sheriff Joedy Pennington said the dogs are being taken care of in another county and that investigators are working to determine if any were stolen so they can alert the rightful owners.
The sheriff told WTOK he will not tolerate dogfighting.
“What happened last night was despicable,” he said to the TV station.
Formal charges are expected today.
