Mississippi’s coronavirus curve spiking, not flattening as daily new case average tops 1,000

Mississippi’s battle against the COVID-19 coronavirus seems to be worsening based on the latest state numbers released Monday which showed more high records set.
Mississippi’s 7-day average of new coronavirus cases jumped to 1,030 cases per day, the first time that average topped 1,000.
The new trailing 7-day average is more than three times what it was a month ago when the average was 330 on June 20.
The 14-day average of daily new cases jumped to 902, also a new record high.
The 14-day death toll stayed steady at a record 246 people dying of the virus in the last two weeks.
Mississippi reported 1,251 new cases Monday. That brings the total number of cases found in Mississippi to 43,889. The state believes more than 30,000 of those cases have recovered.
The state also reported 3 new deaths Monday attributed to the virus bringing the total death toll to 1,358.
Totals of all reported COVID-19 cases for 2020, including those in long-term care (LTC) facilities.
